Kayaking take two

Jul 13, 09:18 PM

So, we went to Austin to pick up Jaylen on Sunday and went kayaking. I went in a two person kayak with Jaylen, Chris took Tully in a one person kayak and Clint and Kesha took another two person.

We were doing really well, even Chris and Tully, until my brother decided to quickly paddle over and splash Jaylen. Then, of course, Jaylen had to lean WAY OVER to try and splash him back. Well, that was that. We ended up IN the lake rather than on the kayak ON the lake. The water was cold. But the most irritating part was that we couldn’t get back onto the kayak because the lake was so deep that we couldn’t touch the bottom. So we had to paddle and swim over to the shore from the MIDDLE of the lake. Clint rowed. Kesha held onto our kayak. I swam in the back pushing and Jaylen just held on and floated having a good old time. Silly boy.

Then, on the way back, he wanted to play what if and not paddle. “What if there is great white shark in the lake?” That kind of thing. I think he was a bit freaked out. Part of it had to do with the fact that while I fell off the kayak, Jaylen rolled with the kayak and ended up with it on his head. He was not happy about that. Totally freaked out until he realized that his life vest was doing its job. Poor kid.

No pictures. We learned our lesson with the iPhone incident. Too bad because Chris and Tully looked so cute in their life vests in the kayak.

  1. This is exactly what would have happened to me. But exactly.

  2. But… time will soften the memory of any panic that Jaylen might have felt and leave him with the memory of spending a summer day on the lake with his favorite aunt and uncle!

  3. We are making him do it again tomorrow. Evil aunt and uncle.
